Old Adages
While outside with a young man who was working in my yard, I was amused by some of the old adages he was using. He said they came from his grandmother so I thought it would be great to see how many old adages you may recall. If you’re willing to participate on this fine morning, I ask that you unmute your phones and shout out the ending for each of the adage I present. Before beginning, let’s define what an adage is. According to Collins dictionary.com, an adage is something people often say “which expresses a general truth about some aspect of life…[it] is essentially a proverb; a well known expression regarded to be truth.” So, today even if you don’t believe the adage or saying, I invite you to just have a little fun with me.

Not all adages are true. They are sayings or expressions used to make a point. In general, they are easy to remember and can basically stand on their own. They allow us to make a point quickly with few words as suggestions for better living. As English.stackexchange.com says, the phrase old adage is commonly used; the word adage is quite adequate.
